Tomorrow (1/25): Sportspark Closed, Expect Travel Delays

Dear Roosevelt Island Community, Due to the incoming winter storm, Sportspark will be closed tomorrow, Sunday, January 25. Red Bus, Tram, and Ferry service will operate on their normal weekend schedules. Please allocate extra time for travel and expect possible service delays. Residents are encouraged to limit non-essential travel during the storm, if possible, and to use caution when traveling. Thank you and stay safe. -Team RIOC

Winter Storm Watch: Snow Parking Restrictions on Main Street Beginning Saturday @7pm

Dear Roosevelt Island Community: According to the National Weather Service, there is currently a Winter Storm Watch for our area from 8:00 AM Sunday, January 25, through 1:00 PM Monday, January 26. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are currently expected, with wind gusts of up to 35 mph possible. Snow, sleet, and rain are expected. These conditions may cause significant travel difficulties. Please use mass transit if possible.   Due to the winter storm, there will be No Parking from 501 to 645 Main Street beginning Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 7:00 PM through Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 7:00 PM. During this time, free parking will be available for Roosevelt Island residents only, with valid identification, at the Motorgate Parking Garage on a first-come, first-served basis. Motorists are advised they cannot park on the Motorgate roof or in reserve spaces.  Any vehicle utilizing free snow parking must be removed from Motorgate by Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM, or it will be subject to pay the normal Motorgate day rate.   Vehicles displaying disabled parking placards may begin parking under the helix as of Saturday at 12:00 PM and must be moved by Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM, or they will be summoned and towed.   RIOC is closely monitoring the situation and will provide follow-up advisories regarding storm impacts to transportation, island closures, and any additional storm preparations. Beginning 1/28: One Elevator in Motorgate Out of Service for Upgrade Work

Dear Roosevelt Island Community:   Please be advised that beginning Wednesday, January 28, one elevator in Motorgate’s south elevator bay will be taken offline to accommodate upgrades to the elevator control system. The elevator taken out of service is expected to remain offline for approximately five weeks.   While this work takes place, the other elevator in the south bay will remain in service.   Upon completion of this work, RIOC will schedule similar upgrades for the second elevator. RIRA Winter Preparedness Webinar Tonight 8-9PM

Tonight, January 22, from 8-9 PM the Roosevelt Island Residents Association will be presenting a preparedness webinar on Surviving Extreme Cold. NYC DOT - Roosevelt Island Bridge Testing -Wednesday 1/28

The NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) will be conducting monthly test openings of the Roosevelt Island Bridge on Wed 1/28 from 10 AM – 2 PM. Test openings take approximately 8 – 12 minutes and will impact traffic. Testing requires a complete closure of the bridge to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic during lifts. We thank you for your patience during this routine testing.
