Dear Roosevelt Island Community: According to the National Weather Service, there is currently a Winter Storm Watch for our area from 8:00 AM Sunday, January 25, through 1:00 PM Monday, January 26. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are currently expected, with wind gusts of up to 35 mph possible. Snow, sleet, and rain are expected. These conditions may cause significant travel difficulties. Please use mass transit if possible.   Due to the winter storm, there will be No Parking from 501 to 645 Main Street beginning Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 7:00 PM through Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 7:00 PM. During this time, free parking will be available for Roosevelt Island residents only, with valid identification, at the Motorgate Parking Garage on a first-come, first-served basis. Motorists are advised they cannot park on the Motorgate roof or in reserve spaces.  Any vehicle utilizing free snow parking must be removed from Motorgate by Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM, or it will be subject to pay the normal Motorgate day rate.   Vehicles displaying disabled parking placards may begin parking under the helix as of Saturday at 12:00 PM and must be moved by Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM, or they will be summoned and towed.   RIOC is closely monitoring the situation and will provide follow-up advisories regarding storm impacts to transportation, island closures, and any additional storm preparations.
