Tram
The Roosevelt Island Tram provides a fast and scenic connection between Roosevelt Island and Manhattan. Opened in 1976, the Roosevelt Island Tram was originally built as an interim transit solution and has since become a permanent part of New York City's transportation network. The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation oversees the operation and maintenance of the tram to ensure safe and reliable service, including routine inspections and scheduled maintenance periods.
The tram operates year-round between Tramway Plaza on Roosevelt Island and East 60th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan, offering an essential transit link and iconic views of the East River and skyline.
Service, Fares & Hours
The tram accepts standard MTA fares, including OMNY tap-to-pay and unlimited passes. Cabins provide accessible service for riders with mobility devices, strollers, and bicycles.

Rush hour service:
During rush hour, the tram operates with increased frequency every 7.5 minutes to accommodate peak commuter demand. Service runs at regular 15 minute intervals outside of rush hours.
